The forms are simplified and held within broad areas of colour, creating a scene that feels both calm and quietly structured.

The lithograph forms part of the series Hommage à Fernand Mourlot, produced in 1989 and 1990 to mark the 100th anniversary of Fernand Mourlot’s birth. Thirteen images were selected or specially composed by artists who had worked with the Atelier, including Brasilier, Cathelin, Gilot, Picasso, Léger, Miró, Buffet and Cocteau. The series reflects the breadth of artists associated with Mourlot and the role the studio played in bringing their work into print.

Ref. He was born in 1929 and is one of the last surviving modernists to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1949. His style combines abstraction and expressionism which he uses to paint brightly coloured landscapes, nudes, ladies, gentleman and dynamic equestrian scenes from a magical, carefree perspective. He has exhibited many times in group exhibitions and solo shows across the world from 1956 to present day.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0761/0911/9764/files/WEB_E3_5a66d5bf-b55d-4e1e-856c-05c993028661.png?v=1781012665
