Artist: Gustav Bolin (1920 - 1999) was a Swedish painter whose family descended from Russian goldsmiths, suppliers to the Tsars and the Swedish Royal family for three generations. His family moved to France when he was an infant. As a young man, he studied art with Othon Friesz in his Paris studio. When the Second World War broke out, he moved to the South of France where he met André Lhote, Garell, Tal Coat and Rollier. They exhibited their works together at the Musée de Valence in 1943. He is remembered for his ethereal landscapes, inspired abstraction, shapes and use of bright Mediterranean colours.
