Pablo Picasso

This is probably one of the most important pieces in the collection. One of only 300 posters ever created, it was the first design Picasso created for the Provençal town of Vallauris, a once fading pottery scene until Picasso discovered his own love for ceramics.

Not only do I love the simplicity of the design, complete with typical line drawings, it represents one of the most significant turning points in Picasso's career. The fact there were only 300 editions ever printed makes this even more special!
Raoul Dufy
Classic and unmistakably Dufy, what's not to love. Expressive black lines bring structure to this charming French scene, punctuated with patriotic flags, a bustling market and figures portrayed so energetically you can almost walk alongside them.
Composition aside, the turquoise green and yellows feel incredibly grounding. All in all, a scene of total familiarity and tranquility. Dufy at his best.

Whenever I feel like I need a holiday I just look at this poster. It promotes Menton, the famed seaside town on the French Riviera, a much loved home of Cocteau and Sutherland. To me, this piece offers us all an opportunity to pause, take in the sea breeze and find a moment of solace before joining this lady for a Citron de Menton on the beach!
Lithography is a printing process that works on the principle that oil and water do not mix. The technique was invented in 1796 by German author Alois Senefelder and is still widely used today for fine art prints and posters.
Artists draw directly onto a smooth limestone surface or specially prepared metal plate using greasy materials. The surface is then treated with chemicals to fix the image, and when ink is applied, it adheres only to the drawn areas.

One of the most important pieces in the collection and one of only 300 editions ever created, this was the first poster Picasso created for the Provençal town of Vallauris. This poster represents a poignant and significant change in the artists' creative direction, marking the start of his cermamics career and going on to produce over 4,000 works. In doing so, he transformed Vallauris from a fading pottery town into the international mecca it soon became. The scarcity of this poster makes it even more special!

Lithography is a meticulous printing process that uses a flat stone or metal plate on which the image areas are worked using a greasy substance so that the ink will adhere, while the non-image areas are made ink-repellent.
