Artist: Sonia Delaunay (13 November 1885 – 5 December 1979) was a French artist, fashionista and set designer. Born in Russia, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany before moving to Paris in 1905 to continue studies at the Académie de la Palette in Montparnasse. After divorcing the German art dealer and gallery owner Wilhelm Uhde, she married the French artist, Robert Delaunay in 1910. The couple co-founded the Orphism art movement named in 1913 by their friend and poet, Guillaume Apollinaire to describe their version of Cubism which was based on strong colours and geometric shapes.
