Hans Arp (also known as Jean Arp) was a German sculptor, painter and poet, known as both a Dadaist and an abstract artist. He studied at the École des Arts et Métiers in Strasbourg and later at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1908.

He moved in artistic circles with figures such as Robert Delaunay, Wassily Kandinsky, Max Jacob, Amadeo Modigliani, and Picasso. Arp’s work was included in the first Surrealist group exhibition at Galerie Pierre in Paris in 1925.
