In The Little Wood, Ambrogiani transforms a wooded landscape into a vibrant arrangement of colour and form. Trees and hills are reduced to sweeping areas of cobalt blue, ochre, green and red, while the strong vertical trunks give structure to the otherwise freely handled composition.

The work reflects Ambrogiani’s highly expressive approach to the landscapes of southern France, where colour often takes precedence over naturalistic representation. The result sits somewhere between landscape and abstraction, while retaining the warmth and energy characteristic of his work.
