Description: This lithograph was interpreted by Charles Sorlier, the Mourlot studio’s master printer, who had worked closely with Raoul Dufy. The image is based on a 1930 painting now held at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Nice.
Printed in 1954, this version is an avant la lettre state, produced for an exhibition at the Galerie des Ponchettes in Nice, which is part of the city’s network of museums devoted to contemporary art and is often associated with Dufy’s work.
Dufy frequently returned to the south of France, painting views of Nice alongside scenes of regattas and horse racing. In the 1920s, he worked across a wide range of media, including ceramics, tapestry and large-scale decorative commissions. He was awarded the International Grand Prix for painting at the Venice Biennale in 1952, the year before his death in 1953.
On Arches Paper.
