Description: This rare original six-colour lithograph by Jean Cocteau was drawn on stone in 1956 and is signed on the plate. Although conceived at that time, the edition was not printed until later.

The image was issued as the frontispiece for Lithographies – Jean Cocteau, published in 1975 and printed at the Mourlot studio. The full edition comprised 150 impressions, none of which were signed in pencil.

This is one of a few trial/printer's proofs printed before the full edition.

On Arches paper.

Artist: Jean Cocteau (1898 - 1963) was a French polymath and one of the principal creators of the Surrealist, avant-garde and Dadaist movements. As well as his art, he was a successful poet, playwright, novelist, designer and filmmaker, and regarded as one of the most influential artistic figures in the early 20th century. His hugely collectible artworks developed into a style often described as spare and whimsical.
