Artist: Eduardo Chillida was a Spanish sculptor notable for his monumental abstract works, and produced lithographs, etchings and woodcuts. A former footballer, he was forced out of the sport by injuries and studied architecture at the University of Madrid before moving to Paris to sculpt. His major public works can be seen in Barcelona, Berlin, Frankfurt and Dallas as well as steel sculptures at the front of the Unesco headquarters in Paris, and the World Bank in Washington. He exhibited his early work in 1949 in the Salon de Mai at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, followed a year later with a show of post-war art at the Galerie Maeght at at Les Mains Eblouies. His work featured in over 100 one-man shows.
