Description: By the mid 1970s, Guiramand had developed a style that was unmistakably his own. This original poster was published for his 1975 exhibition on the Route de la Colle, just outside the medieval village of Saint Paul de Vence, a place long associated with artists drawn to the light and landscape of the French Riviera.

The image reflects a quieter side of the artist’s work. A graceful female figure and drifting birds are reduced to broad areas of colour and a few carefully placed lines, creating a sense of calm without sacrificing the richness that became one of his hallmarks.

After winning the Prix de Rome in 1952, he spent several years at the Villa Medici in Rome, where Mediterranean light and classical architecture left a lasting impression on his work. That influence remained with him throughout his career, giving his paintings a warmth and luminosity that collectors continue to admire today.

Artist: Paul Guiramand (1926-2008) was a French painter and theatre set designer. He studied at L’École des Beaux-Arts and was influenced by Brianchon, Picasso and Matisse. During periods of travel in Spain and Italy, he held his first exhibition at Marlborough Fine Art in London when he was living primarily at the Villa Medicis in Florence with Tilson, Francis Bacon and Corpora. In 1954 he began working with Charles Sorlier, a master printer at Mourlot’s Atelier where he began a series of lithographs. His work was exhibited at key galleries and museums including Galerie Taménaga, Osaka in Japan.
