Serge de Poligny was a French screenwriter, director and painter who moved easily between the worlds of art and cinema. Born in Paris in 1903, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under Maurice Denis, but his interests were in film, and he left his studies to work as a set designer and painter for Paramount.

He went on to direct and write films, collaborating with leading creative figures of the time, including Jean Cocteau and Christian Dior. Later in life, he returned to painting and exhibited in Paris at Galerie André Weil.
